Somer Anderson, CPA, M.Acc., is an Assistant Professor of Accounting in the John E. Simon School of Business at Maryville University.
Anderson teaches several courses, both in the classroom and online, including financial accounting, auditing, accounting information systems, QuickBooks for the accounting professional, individual income tax, and business statistics. Students benefit from the professional experience she gained in the fields of accounting and finance prior to her career in higher education. Anderson was a financial statement auditor for five years at a public accounting firm and a finance manager within a large healthcare organization for five years.
Anderson also plays a key role in aligning Maryville’s accounting curriculum with student career objectives, ensuring pathways to CPA certification and careers in forensic accounting or other accounting fields.
She earned her bachelor of science in accountancy as well as her master of accountancy from the University of Missouri. She received a graduate certificate in personal financial planning from Kansas State University, and is currently a Ph.D. candidate in financial planning Ph.D. there. She is passionate about financial literacy and her related research has been published in the Journal of Financial Planning and the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning.
