Curriculum

At Maryville University, we have a reputation for being future-focused and tech-forward. That sense of purpose and innovation drives our curriculum for our master’s in AI, one of the only fully online degrees of its kind in the U.S. Our program comprises 33 credit hours (11 classes), including seven core courses in areas like deep learning, machine learning, mathematics, and ethics; three elective courses of your choice; and a practical capstone experience to help you build your real-world skills in AI.

All courses are three credit hours and take just eight weeks (half a term) to complete.

Admission requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (college work)*
  • No GMAT or GRE required
  • You can read our transfer credit policy here**
  • Official transcripts required for all institutions previously attended
  • 300- to 500-word personal statement
  • Resume required
  • International applicants (if applicable): Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL with a score of 563, speaking sub-score of 23, writing sub-score of 20, reading and listening scores of 21, and a combined score of 85 or higher)

*Applicants who do not meet the GPA requirement may be considered for provisional admission.

**The acceptance of transfer credit is at the discretion of Maryville University.

Students who do not meet the requirements for full admission into Maryville graduate programs may be considered for conditional admission. Students may qualify for conditional admission with a GPA between 2.75 and 2.99.

Earning your professional certificate doesn’t lock you out of completing a master’s degree. In fact, it streamlines the process. All coursework you complete during your certificate program is for credit, meaning you can apply coursework toward a future master’s degree.

Robbie Beane, PhD

Director of Computer Science, Assistant Professor of Data Science

Dr. Robbie Beane is passionate about computer and data science education and exploring the applications of technology within his teaching practice. As a director and educator in our computer science programs, including the Master of Science in AI, he finds innovative ways to introduce students to new technological skills and to enhance the student experience by implementing cutting-edge technology into the courses he teaches.

His recent work in computer science includes an exploration of the use of commercial cloud-computing services such as Amazon Web Services and Databricks within an educational setting.

Dr. Beane holds a PhD in Mathematics from the Missouri University of Science and Technology. Throughout his nearly two decades of teaching experience, he has taught and developed courses in actuarial science, mathematics, data science, and computer science, covering topics like computer programming, machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and probability theory.
