Academic Bio

Dr. Boniface Stegman, Ph.D., MSN, RN, is an experienced clinical leader with decades of expertise in pre-hospital and hospital staff education and direction, as well as in emergency nursing as a staff RN. Dr. Stegman, an associate professor of nursing at Maryville University, began her professional career as a paramedic in North St. Louis County in the late 1970s. This led to her pursuing a nursing career in 1982 after graduating from St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley.

From the early 1980s though the mid-2000s, Dr. Stegman held notable nursing education and director positions. Her shift to the academic world began in 2008 after she completed her MSN Nurse Educator at the University of Missouri – St. Louis. After that, she was an adjunct faculty for Central Methodist University, Goldfarb College of Nursing, and the University of Missouri – St. Louis while still employed at St. Anthony’s Medical Center. She then obtained her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Missouri – St. Louis in 2013.

Dr. Stegman has been a nursing faculty member at Maryville University since 2010. She currently teaches online nursing leadership, nursing informatics, nursing research, foundations of clinical scholarship, and integrating and synthesizing research along with roles and responsibilities of the community paramedic, community assessment, and chronic disease management.

In addition to her extensive professional experience, Dr. Stegman regularly presents her nursing education insights in breakout workshops, sessions, and conferences. She is an active member of the St. Charles County Ambulance District Paramedic Program advisory committee, the Missouri Center for Nursing board of directors, and has held longtime executive leadership committee memberships with the March of Dimes, Focus on Teaching and Technology Conference, and numerous Maryville University McAuley School of Nursing councils and committees.

Dr. Stegman is also the treasurer of the board of directors for Mehlville Fire Protection District (MFPD). Her focus has been to ensure fiscal responsibility to the taxpayer and overseeing advancements in EMS technology, pre-hospital care, and HIPAA compliance. She has promoted initiatives that have put MFPD on the forefront of providing state-of-the-art patient care, including the hiring of a dedicated medical director, the establishment of a critical care paramedic program, and the launch of Mehlville Mobile Healthcare, the district’s community paramedicine program.
