I would like to thank all nurses in all fields for your dedication to your patients — your work is appreciated and admired. Your compassion, optimism, and kindness do not go unnoticed. You are able to brighten up your patients’ days no matter what they are going through. You are able to ease their pain and put smiles on their faces. We cannot thank you enough for everything you do. You are our heroes who shine very bright, and we hope we are able to put a smile on your faces, which is a small token of our appreciation. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

“Let us never consider ourselves finished nurses. … We must be learning all of our lives.” – Florence Nightingale

This quote is special to me because I have the joy of speaking to nurses about their education. I am delighted to be a nursing admission advisor. Nursing is a calling, and only special people can hear the voice. I am proud of the nurses of Maryville University. You make Maryville special with all you do. Be safe!

A message from Dr. Buck

Dr. Elizabeth Buck, Assistant Dean for Nursing and Director of the Online Nursing Program

Nurses seem to have always been the unsung heroes of the healthcare world. How unfortunate it is that it’s taken a pandemic to bring recognition to the work that is taken for granted by so many, even ourselves. We don’t want to toot our horns for doing the work that we have been educated to do and that is our passion. But the cat sure is out of the bag now, and it’s gratifying that people all over the world now realize how crucial we are to the health and well-being of global citizens.

It is most fitting that 2020 is the Year of the Nurse Worldwide, in honor of the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birthday on May 12. So in honor of all of you and the contributions you make every day, the faculty and I want to wish you a very heartfelt happy Nurse Appreciation Week, because you deserve it so much.

I am honored to work as an enrollment advisor for many hard-working and dedicated nurses across the globe. I’m super thankful for the compassion and commitment demonstrated by nurses. Thank you for all you do, and happy Nurse Appreciation Week!

— Maria G.,
Enrollment Advisor

Thank you nurses for going above and beyond every day — especially during this time when there is so much uncertainty and things are moving so fast. I hope you know there are so many of us out here rooting for you, thanking you, and praying for you. You’re our heroes.

I’d like to thank nurses for the compassion and empathy they bring to work every day. Nurses serve our communities, our families, our loved ones; and beyond the exceptional care, the emotional support and comfort they provide is remarkable. Thank you.

A message from the Maryville community

It is with great humility that I write to our nurses to thank you for your selflessness and strength during this time, and always. I am in awe of the courage and commitment you regularly exhibit to your patients and communities. One of my favorite parts of my job is getting to read your personal statements and essays; every one of you is, quite literally, changing lives for the better. Happy Nurses Week!

— Rachel T.,

To our nurses — thank you. How can we possibly thank you enough for what you are doing for our country? With all the selfless acts you are doing each day you are exactly like a superhero. I thank you for taking care of patients day in and day out and risking your own health and your families’ health. You truly are heroes, and each and every day I thank God for people like you. God bless you and your families. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay alive.

— Karen T.,

My daughter Ava learned so much being hospitalized during COVID, such as why pandemics were so dangerous and what it meant to self-quarantine. I am thankful every day of the people who go out on the front lines to ensure that at-risk patients like my daughter with asthma have a speedy recovery and a safe environment while I was also unable to be at her side due to quarantine. During such crazy times they are our rock and strength. Thank you so much for everything that you do nurses!

Nurses are the best! My mom spent her entire career as a nurse working in nursing homes and with hospice. I not only got to see firsthand the amount of dedication and hard work that goes into being a nurse, but also the deep level of care, compassion, and mental fortitude they embody. That is not easy to do day in day out considering some of the tragic situations they can experience. I have nothing but the utmost respect for the nursing community and will be forever grateful to those who step into that role! Thank you so much for all that you do!

— Matt M.,
Associate Director of Recruitment
